Hellenic Academy of Historical European Martial Arts ‘Leontes’.
School dedicated to the study and practice of ancient, medieval, renaissance hoplomachia and classical and modern fencing.

The members of the school are studding:

A. Byzantine Hoplomachia. The group called Scholae Paladinae and is under the sponsorship of Pammachon who is under the sponsorship of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and member of the Association of Historical Studies Koryvantes.

The scholars study the following weapons:

  1. Long sword. It is a type of sword of 14th – 15th century. This type of weapon used from Byzantine nobles. The style had influence from Italian and German fight school.
  2. Paramerion with the use (or not) of small round shield. A type of sword where until the 11th century was a straight two edged blade but in the following years it became asaber style weapon.
  3. Spathion with the use (or not) of small round shield. It is a type of sword that it is the evolution of Roman gladius.
  4. Staff
  5. Long knife
  6. Archery
  7. Phalanx tactics with the use of scoutari shield.

B. Renaissance combat fight. The group studies both the Kunst des Fechten or kunstfechten (German school of fencing) and also the dynamic Italian school of fencing. The group called Freifechter Guild and it is member of the Meyer Freifechter Guild and HEMA Alliance. The scholars study the way of fight of the Fencing Masters that belong to the Geselschaft Liechtenauers (Society of Liechtenauer) and also the style of the Freifechter Fencing Master Joachim Meyer, who was the last great figure in the tradition of the German grand master Johannes Liechtenauer. From the Italian combat style the group study the teachings of Fiore Dei Liberi, Filippo Vadi, Ridolfo Capoferro and others.

The scholars study the following weapons:
1. Long sword (langes schwert)
2. Dussack
3. Rapier
4. Staff

C. The School of French Fencing or L’ Ecoled’ Escrime Francais . The France school begins when adopted the Italian fencing, the style of Meyer and they made a new dynamic style. The group study the use of épée de cour (small sword).

D. Classical and Modern fencing. The group studies the France school of fencing with a mixed influence of the new Italian school of fencing. The group is under the sponsorship of the Hellenic Fencing Federation.

The scholars study the following weapons:
1. Foil
2. Saber
3. Epee
4. Military saber

The school consists from professional coaches and instructors of fighting sports and martial arts who they are certified from the Hellenic Ministry of Sports. Also consists with archaeologists and historical researchers.
