Τhe Hellenic Martial Education of Pammachon “Modular Close Combat” to the 7th NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center Annual Conference


13407018_913833542079273_6192221605415670137_nIt is our distinct pleasure to announce that on the 9th of June 2016, Mr. Kostas Dervenis, the Headmaster of Pammachon, presented a lecture on “Modular Close Combat” to the 7th NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center Annual Conference; this convention’s central theme was “Challenges to Maritime Security Derived from Transnational Organized Crime at Sea.” The conference was attended by one hundred fifty five (155) delegates from twenty five (25) member states, partner countries and NATO organizations, countries outside the NATO structure, and professors from the international academic community, as well as representatives from the shipping industry and government think tanks.
Mr. Dervenis’ lecture centered on the neurophysiological and tactical factors inherent to the changing environment during close combat engagements, with particular emphasis on the mission of boarding teams. His presentation was attended by the Director of Strategy and Policy of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Rear Admiral Ioannis Pavlopoulos GRC(N), Vice Admiral Bruno Paulmier FRA(N) DCOM MARCOM, Director Defence Policy Capabilities ΝΑΤΟ ΗQ Mr. Timo Koster, NATO Head of Section, OPSA, Division of Operations Mr. Michel Soula, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women Peace and Security Ambassador Marriët Schuurman, the President of World Maritime University Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, Rear Admiral Peter Brown, Assistant Commandant for Response Policy USCG, Vice Admiral Javier Gonzalez Huix ESP(N), ACT DCOS JFT, Rear Admiral Mitko Petev, Commander of Bulgarian Navy, representatives from Europol and Interpol, US EU Command, the European Commission and other dignitaries.

Pammachon is a living historic Hellenic martial tradition with roots in the 19th century and beyond. We take great pride in that it has been so wholeheartedly embraced by these true warriors of the 21st century, people who have repeatedly “seen the elephant” up close, and can face its deadly gaze undisturbed.
